STEP ONE : REGISTER WITH THE COACHING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
 The Coaching Association of Canada website (coach.ca) runs the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP).

You will need to get a NCCP# to take part in all coaching courses and modules.

This is easy to do!

  1. Visit coach.ca
  2. Click red button in the top right corner to access 'THE LOCKER'
  3. Select 'Don't have and NCCP#? Create one now!

 

The courses run through the NCCP that you may need are:

Coach Initiation in Sport eModule (This is an online independent learning course)

Safe Sport Training (This is an online independent learning course)

Making Head Way in Sport (online, independent course - related to concussions)

Make Ethical Decisions Class (this is often online, but at a specific time with an instructor)

 

 

 

 

STEP TWO: CREATE AN ACCOUNT WITH RINGETTE CANADA

You must register as a Coach with Ringette Canada to have your coaching qualifications verified to coach ringette.

Register with Ringette Canada at: http://www.coachingringette.ca/c 

Once your have completed your courses at the NCCP they will be marked as completed on your Ringette Canada Profile.

 

The courses you may need at coachingringette.ca are:

Community Sport Initiation (Ringette).

This workshop will give you all of the tools you need to hit the ice with confidence as a first-time ringette coach.

Over the course of 10 hours, this in-class and on-ice workshop will help you:

  • Understand the level of athlete you are coaching (typically children from U9 to U12);
  • Equip you with the basic tools to plan safe, fun, and effective practices;
  • Show you how to teach basic ringette skills in a fun and inclusive way.

Competition Introduction (Ringette).

This two day (14-hour) workshop provides an exceptional foundation for your coaching career and introduces new coaching methods that will enhance both your coaching and your program’s effectiveness.

Through a mix of classroom and hands-on learning on the ice, this workshop focuses on:

  • Preparing coaches to plan and execute fun and safe practices for their players;
  • Introducing basic and more complex technical and tactical elements relevant to ringette;
  • Providing an opportunity for coaches to practice the above elements on the ice;
  • Preparing coaches to plan for an entire season of ringette, ensuring their athletes abilities progress over the course of the season; and
  • Ensuring coaches are aware, and understand the guiding principles of Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) in order to appropriately plan their seasons.

 

 

 

 

General Team Staff Notes & Other role requirements

Notes

  • CI Certified is an acceptable status for coaches who need CI Trained
  • Neither CI Trained nor CI Certified is acceptable for coaches who should be CSI Trained.
  • CSI is not a pre-requisite for CI. 

 You must have "Trained" or "Certified" Status to be approved.

Manager

We encourage teams to register a manager to improve communication between RAB and teams. 

Managers have the option of completing the Manager's Certificate as can be found on www.coachingringette.ca, but it is not a requirement. 

Managers MUST complete the Safe Sport module.  

Note: Managers are NOT permitted on the bench during games. Female managers do not fulfill the female coach requirement. 

 

 

 

Trainer

Each Team Staff is able to have unlimited trainers on their TRF, but only one on the bench at any given game. This individual must be 18 or older and counts towards the maximum of 5 staff members permitted on the bench at once. To be a trainer, Standard First Aid or higher is required.  

Alternatives include:

i.          Medical Doctor/Student
ii.         Fireman
iii.        Registered Nurse (send licence)
iv.         Ambulance Training
v.          Athletic Therapy
vi.         Sport Physio Designation or Sport First Responder
vii.        Equivalency for any certified standard first aid course, thirteen (13) hours or more in duration (eg. St. John Ambulance or Red Cross Standard First Aid programs), which includes the following content:
•     Principal of First Aid and Safety
•     Artificial Respiration
•     Wounds and Bleeding
•     Shock, Unconsciousness and Fainting
•     Fractures
•     Head and Spinal Injuries
•     Joint Injuries
•     Medical Conditions (Diabetes, Asthma, etc.)

Trainers must complete the Safe Sport module and Making Head Way

Female trainers do not fulfill the female coach requirement. On the bench only except to provide medical assistance as needed on ice.  

A copy of the first aid training, professional registration, or other certification paperwork must be submitted via a google form before the trainer will be approved. 

 

Junior Coach - CIS E-Module

TO BECOME A JUNIOR COACH YOU MUST:

  1. Contact your local association to verify the requirements for junior coaches. Your local association coaching director will be able to guide you and match you with a team.
  2. Complete the Coach Initiation in Sport eModule in the NCCP Locker
  3. Complete Safe Sport Training in the NCCP Locker. 
  4. Recommend completing Making Head Way in Sport. It is a free course and covers concussions - very valuable for athletes and coaches!
  5. Be a minimum of 14 years of age -  a coach may join a team mid-season (until December 15th) as a Junior Coach once they turn 14 and a maximum of 17 years of age by September 1st of the current Ringette season.
  6. Be a current ringette player (or taking one year off due to injury, etc.)
  7. Coach for a team in any division younger than the Junior Coach.
  8. Be registered on the team roster in the Junior Coach role.

 

On-Ice Assistant - CIS E-Module

TO BECOME AN ON-ICE ASSISTANT YOU MUST:

  1. Contact your local association to verify the requirements for coaches, this will include a Criminal Record Check. Your local association coaching director will be able to guide you quickly in the correct direction.
  2. Complete the Coach Initiation in Sport eModule in the NCCP Locker
  3. Complete Safe Sport Training in the NCCP Locker. 
  4. Complete Making Head Way in Sport as of September 1, 2024 - material was updated then and team staff who had previously completed this must do so again. It is a free course and covers concussions - very valuable!
  5. Be 18 years of age or older.
  6. Assist teams registered in U19 or younger
  7. Only help during practices and Testing Days; not permitted to be on the bench for games; league or exhibition, tournaments, etc.
  8. Be registered on the Team Roster as an On-Ice Assistant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

U16AA, U19AA, NRL Coaches - Competition Development
Ringette Canada requires that coaches at U16AA and U19AA must complete ONE new-to-them Competition Development (Comp Dev) multi-sport module per season (Deadline January 31st). EXCEPT if:
  1. the coach completed their Comp Intro evaluation that season they do not also have to do the Comp Dev module
  2. the coach is already Comp Dev Trained or Certified, or has done all 8 multi-sport modules. 

NRL Teams must have at least one coach on the bench who is Comp Dev Certified, and all other coaches must also complete one new-to-them Comp Dev multi-sport module per season. 

Anyone interested in becoming Comp Dev trained/certified should refer to the Pathway document. There are 8 multi-sport modules and a sport-specific course, followed by 2 evaluations (1 practice, 1 game) for certification. These multi-sport modules are:

  1. Developing Athletic Abilities
  2. Coaching & Leading Effectively
  3. Prevention & Recovery
  4. Manage a Sport Program
  5. Performance Planning
  6. Managing Conflict
  7. Psychology of Performance
  8. Leading a Drug-Free Sport (this is the only one that can be completed online independently)

Of these 8 multi-sport modules, the first 5 must be completed prior to taking the sport-specific ringette course. The other 3 can be completed before OR after the sport-specific.
