Congratulations! You have been selected to officiate at the Ringette Alberta Provincial Championships. As you prepare for the upcoming championship there are a number of things that you should know.
How much will I be paid per game? Officials will receive an honorarium of $17 per game in the Petite and Tween divisions and $20 per game in the Junior and above divisions. Officials will receive $5 for each mini-game.
If I do not reside in the host community, will I be reimbursed for driving to the host location? No. All travel must be pre-approved. In order to keep travel costs down, carpooling will be expected. The Ringette Alberta office will designate a driver to take their own vehicle (reimbursement will be $0.30/km based on map kilometers) or they will provide a rental vehicle. You are welcome to travel using this arrangement without cost to yourself. If you choose to drive a separate vehicle to the host site, or arrange for other transportation, your expenses will not be covered.
What if I do not reside in the host community but have to travel from a neighbouring community to officiate at provincials? For officials who must travel to a community outside their own, but within a 50 kilometer radius (i.e., Edmonton to Spruce Grove), they will be reimbursed $10/day for pre-approved travel. Carpooling is also expected in this case, and where officials come from the same household, only one reimbursement will be provided.
If you reside close to the host community but outside the 50 kilometer radius, you will likely be considered to stay in the accommodations provided. This will be dealt with on a case by case basis and will be at the discretion of the Technical Director in consultation with the Director of Officials.
Where will I be staying when I arrive in the host community? If you do not reside in the host community, hotel/motel accommodations will be made for you. The officials will stay as a group with 2-3 officials in each room. Males and females will room separately. Payment for room and taxes will be covered, while incidentals (i.e., phone calls, movies, etc.) will be your responsibility.
Will my meals be covered? Yes. All officials will receive some form of meal per diem while officiating at the Provincial Championships. Rates will differ for out of town and in town officials, and in town officials will receive a per diem based on the number of games officiated.
Out of town officials will receive $7.50 for breakfast, $9.50 for lunch and $17.00 for supper. If the individual is able to leave home after 8:00 am they will not receive a per diem for breakfast on that day. Also, if they are able to return home by 6:00 pm they will not be reimbursed for supper on that day. Please note: if a continental breakfast is offered at the booked accommodations, officials will not receive reimbursement for breakfast, no exceptions.
In town officials will receive a per diem based on the number of games they officiate per day. On days where games are scheduled all day (beginning by 8:30 am and ending after 5:30 pm), an in town official who officiates 3-5 games will receive a per diem of $25.00 for the day. An official only officiating 2 games will receive a per diem of $12.50. Officials who officiate only one game are not eligible to receive a per diem. On part days that the Provincial Championship is running (does not encompass 3 meals), in town officials will receive a per diem of $15.00 provided they officiate more than one game.
