Ringette Alberta Awards

Over the weekend, at our Annual General Meeting, the recipients of our yearly awards were announced. Congratulations to all that were nominated, and thanks you to all the nominators for filling up our mailboxes!! 

Coach of the Year Award – This coach took on responsibilities with three teams this year, helping Assistant Coach a U16B, Head Coaching a U19A team, and taking on an Alberta Winter Games team. Congratulations David Yip from Medicine Hat on this award.

Official of the Year Awards – This official has dedicated over 30 years to officiating, and has always been supportive of his peers, especially in becoming the Zone 2 Referee-in-Chief. Congratulations to Bob Campbell from Cochrane on Official of the Year.

Player of the Year Award – This U19A goalie from Medicine Hat demonstrated her leadership and drive for success throughout the year. Always positive and going the extra steps, she also was able to balance a very heavy and demanding school workload. Congratulations Morgan Penrod from Medicine Hat.

Ringette Excellence Award – This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions towards showcasing the popularity and the overall appeal of the sport of Ringette. This individual has been involved in Ringette for 16 years, becoming a coach, board member and then president. He ran goalie clinics, organized 3-on-3 competitions and facilitates coaching clinics for Ringette Alberta. Congrats to Paul Geddes from Calgary.

Friends of Ringette Award – This award recognizes outstanding individuals who have shown dedication to the sport of Ringette.  This individual started as a volunteer in our sport 25 years ago, and has coached many great teams over the years, has sat on countless committees! Congratulations Joan Hammond from Calgary.

Youth Volunteerism Award – This awards recognizes outstanding young adults who have shown dedication to the sport of Ringette.  This individual has excelled even with the busy schedules of her young lives and understands the true value of sportsmanship and volunteerism. She takes part in running skills camps, practices and evaluations. Congratulations to Kennedy Wilson from Medicine Hat.

Phyllis Sadoway Development Award – This award is given to an association that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to developing and growing the sport in their community.  The Phyllis Sadoway Development Award accompanies a cheque for $500 given to each selected association to use to further enhance their programs.  These funds may be used to offer development opportunities for officials, team staff, players, volunteers, and parents within the association. Congratulations to Medicine Hat Ringette Association.

Board Service Award – This award recognizes long-serving board members who have provided Ringette Alberta with outstanding volunteer service. This individual has been on the Ringette Alberta board for seven years and in that time led the charge in a difficult period. We would like to thank and acknowledge Andy LaForge, congratulations.
